Behind-the-Scenes Extras

Ever wonder how the Mary Parker books come to life? This page offers a peek behind the curtain — from early sketches and illustration drafts to character development, story ideas, and fun moments that didn’t make it into the final books. Step into Mary’s world and see how imagination and science come together!

Welcome to the creative corner of Mary Parker – Science Adventures! Here you'll find early artwork, design notes, and behind-the-scenes glimpses that show how each story takes shape. It's a place for readers who want to see what goes into making the magic.

Stories don’t appear out of nowhere — they’re built from sketches, questions, and lots of curiosity. On this page, you’ll discover how the Mary Parker books are made, from idea to illustration, with plenty of surprises along the way.

December 14, 2025     The People in Mary’s Adventures

I’ve updated what was once called the “Family Tree” — now better described as The People in Mary’s Adventures — and placed everyone a bit more carefully where they belong.

Aunt Gertie now stands in her rightful place. After all, Gertie is sister to George, both born in Chicago, and somehow I suspect Aunt Gertie will have a larger role to play in future Mary Parker Mysteries.

I’ve also added a few incidentals — like Eddie Gerard, the grocery store owner. (Sorry, Eddie… “incidental” may be unfair. I’m quite sure Mary and Evelyn appreciated it when you raised the ransom on stranded soda bottles from two cents to five.)

And at some point, we’ll need to give the guard at the Breverton Science Lab gate a proper name. Otherwise, Eleanor may have some difficulty explaining the identity of the father of her first child.

Could we make this any more obvious?
